Our data recovery services
Lost your photos or other important files? Don't do a thing! (Seriously, the more you keep using your computer after losing data, the less
chance there is that your files can actually be recovered.)
So what should you do? Contact Japha! Whether you accidentally deleted files, your computer won't boot
up or your hard drive failed, we have a variety of technologies we can use to recover your data. Of course we can't make any promises
up-front, but we do have several things we can use to try and get your files back - from internal hard drives, external hard drives, USB sticks
(also known as "thumb drives" or "flash drives"), and even CD/DVD discs.
A quick warning - beware of dodgy operators! The internet abounds with businesses offering to recover your data for a ridiculously low fee.
Many of these guys don't have much experience in data recovery and don't use the full suite of tools available. The consequence of this is
that they may not be able to recover as much as would be possible.
If your data is worth paying someone to recover, don't leave it to chance! Go with someone you can trust. At Japha our technicians have many
years of experience and a wide range of tools they can use. In the past we've recovered photos, business documents and university assignments
for a range of very happy customers. Based on the smile on some of our customers' faces, there's nothing quite like thinking you've lost your
thesis and then finding out that it can actually be recovered after all.
Backing up - the easiest way to avoid needing data recovery!
Unfortunately many people don't think about backing up their data until it's too late - that is, until they need the backup copy because the hard
drive has failed or they accidentally deleted important files. We frequently talk to people who tell us things like:
"Yeah I know I should have been backing up but I didn't. I really wish I had, now everything is gone and I can't get it back!"
If you've got data that's important to you - and let's face it, we all do - then it's important to back up your data often. A good backup
should be:
- regular - there's little point in having backup copies that are months or years old, as none of your recent files will be there
- complete - so it's got everything you need, in case you need to use it
- stored securely - which might be at a friend's or co-worker's house, or even in a safe deposit box at the bank
It's up to you to decide how often you think it's appropriate to back up your data, but the good news is that we've got some software that
can make the whole backup process easier - and it's free! The program is called OnTheSync, and
it scans your data to see what has changed since your last backup - which means you don't need to copy every file each time you do a backup.

Hardware failures
Note that if your disks have suffered a hardware failure, we may not be able to recover your data. Hardware failures are relatively rare in
comparison to other disk-related problems, but they can still happen. If you bring a disk to us to recover the data and the cause of the
problem turns out to be a hardware failure, there's very little that we (or other data recovery experts) can do.
In the event of a hardware failure - and once again, note that these are very rare compared to other causes of data loss - you'd need to
take the drive to one of the companies that specialises in this type of data retrieval. (We can help you to locate a suitable provider of
these services.) In these cases, data retrieval may still be possible but is a lot more expensive.
Secure data deletion
At the opposite end of the scale to data recovery (i.e. recoving files that have been lost), sometimes you need to delete files from your
hard drive securely, and be confident that they can't be recovered by someone else. For example, you may have sensitive corporate data on
some of your computers that are being decommissioned, and you need to make sure it's totally wiped before getting rid of the old machines.
If you need to permanently remove data from any storage media (hard drives, USB sticks, etc), check out our
secure deletion services.
